Have you ever had a dieting week where you did everything on plan but still gained weight?
One of the hardest lessons I ever had to learn about weight loss are two universal truths that are interconnected:
1. you can always control your actions
2. 99% of the time, you can’t control the consequences or what happens as a results.
How you react to these truths speaks a lot about you and your desire to change. For me, I would see a single week of weight gain as a sign from on high that I would never lose weight. I failed to realize at the time that I even though I wanted things to be different, because I already believed that they couldn’t, I was looking for proof that nothing would change.
However, if you believe that you have the capability and motivation to change, a week of weight gain will not end your journey but only serve as an opportunity to dig deeper and ask the questions that keep you going:
- Is this just a plateau? Keep going.
- Do I need to adjust calories in? Make changes.
- Do I need to add workouts or get more sleep? Adjust.
You get to control the car but you can’t change the traffic. Celebrate the actions you take and the choices you make and the results will come whether tweaks are needed or not. You’ve got this.
What is one action you should take today to get moving towards your goal?
